Properties
It's name, meaning "flower of flowers" in Filipino, indicates its renown in the Far East where it's cultivated and distilled (chiefly in Indonesia and Madagascar, but also the Philippines). This "extra" grade from the first stage of distillation, possesses the sweetest & richest therapeutic virtues. See ingredients for more info.
The following points were gathered from a host of medical research cited below:
Harmonises mood: Reduces heart rate & blood pressure, inducing both a feeling of calm & relaxation with deeper emotional self-awareness. Ideal for sudden shock, trauma & rapid breathing.
Slows reaction time & objective awareness to induce a deep sense of calm passivity.
Revitalises skin: Shown to warm skin when massaged, stimulating blood circulation, which can revitalize cells for a more youthful complexion. Poor circulation causes uneven and blotchy skin.
Aphrodisiac: It’s seductive, intoxicating and heady notes inspired the flower's traditional use as an aphrodisiac in the Far East, strewn on the beds of Indonesian newlyweds.
Use
Simple inhalation: Apply 1-2 drops of oil to the palms, rub together gently and inhale deeply a few times.
Baths: Add 5-10 drops. To help oils disperse easily, mix the drops with ½ - 1 cup of either full fat milk, sesame oil or a little salt.
Steam/Compress: Add 10 drops to 100ml water. Soak cloth & wrap on desired area (ideal for bruises, wounds, muscular aches & pains and skin problems). For facia steam add 5 drops to bowl of hot water, cover head with a towel, steam face.
Massages: Use 3% essential oils to carrier (i.e. 6 drops per 10ml of carrier); for children under 12 halve this amount.
Vaporisation: add recommended number of drops to nebulizer or cold steam diffuser.
Ingredients
Cananga Odorata Flower Oil (cananga odorata - contains naturally occurring: benzyl alcohol, benzyl salicylate, eugenol, geraniol, isoeugenol, benzyl benzoate, farnesol, linalool) · 100% pure & organic · Seek professional advice to use internally or undiluted on skin · Keep away from eyes & children.
Ylang Ylang is uniquely distilled in several stages. The first hour provides an intensely sweet and delightfully floral aroma - no doubt the more desirable therapeutically. This grade is aptly called "Extra" (think of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, so-called because the "first press" retains more nutritional quality). Over the next few hours, the middle to lower grades of the oil are extracted in designated segments of time - Ylang Ylang I, then II, then III - each fraction declining from high to lower notes, from a sweeter to a deeper, balsamic and woodier aroma. Finally, Ylang Ylang "Complete" refers to the full-spectrum of grades, from continuous distillation for around 7 hour, and yields a more complex aroma combining all the grades together.
